Top 5 quotes that inspire me to get up every morning.

Quotes to inspire your journey

What is your favourite inspirational quote? Or do you have more than one? I’m somewhat of a ‘quote fiend‘. If I find a good quote, I save it and use then apply it in all walks of life.

When life is becoming too much of a battle, it helps to be able to look at a motivational or inspirational quote.

Pinterest is my go-to for anything ‘quote‘ related. I just can’t get enough of it! There are so many excellent boards and quotes to choose from!

  1. “The bravest thing I ever did was continuing my life when I wanted to die.” Juliette Lewis.

I have a friend who has this tattooed on her left shoulder. Being the tattoo-lover that I am, I think I would have to opt to have this eternally pinned to my body in a place I can see.

It’s so brave to continue to live when all we want to do is die. When getting up in the morning is a struggle when lifting the kettle is a fight; through it all, we choose to live. And what a beautiful thing, in a dark and twisted way.

2. “We accept the love we think we deserve.” The Perks of Being a Wallflower; Stephen Chbosky.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my favourite novels. I have read this on numerous occasions from teenage to adulthood. There is any number of quotes I could have taken from this wonderful book, but chose the above because it resonates with me on a different level.

We accept what we think we ought to accept, and ignore any additional love or success that we received because we feel that we don’t deserve it.

I’ve done this, you’ve no doubt done this, and it’s such a damaging thing. To accept only what we think we deserve and to disregard all the rest.

3.”In three words I can sum up everything I have learnt in life; It goes on.” Robert Frost.

I’ve developed a odd coping skill as of late for when things get tough. I don’t necessarily mean ‘life’ things, but even something like struggling with plank pose in yoga.

You can stand anything for 10 seconds.

I count to ten in my head, then again and then again until whatever it is I am struggling with is over. I can survive it, and life goes on.

4. “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my own ship.” Little Women; Louisa May Alcott.

Isn’t this exactly what we’re doing every time we enter therapy or every time we put a new coping skill into practice? We’re taking charge of our own ships over the rocky oceans we have come to know as life.

5. “I’m sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody.” The Catcher in the Rye; J.D. Salinger.

Throughout my whole life, I have felt like an outsider and a nobody. This thought terrified me. So I pushed myself to be somebody. I pushed myself in school and I got grades surpassing anyone’s expectations of me. I pushed myself in Uni and showed them further. I got my certification for my NEBOSH and, oh look, I’ve done it again.

I got the job, I got the partner, I got the house; I had it all.

Then I didn’t know how to stop pushing, and the pressure pulled me apart from the inside (literally) out. I put all this pressure on myself to be somebody to the point where I became just another broken person in the system.

Now, although hesitantly and with a lot of guilt, I am learning not to be afraid to be nobody. I am learning to embrace my sensitivity as a joyful thing, and I’m allowing my emotions to come to the surface again. I’m willing to take a step back so my mind and body can heal, and if that leaves me as a nobody (no job, no career), then so be it.

How far do we need to push ourselves to be something before we say enough is enough?

    1. I love quotes and if it were up to me my whole house would be a shrine to my favourite ones. But it’s not and my partner is a party pooper!
Thank you so much for stopping by and showing your support.

  14. Oops ignore my previous comment, I accidentally clicked comment as I’m on mobile! I love all the quotes, particularly the Perks of Being A Wallflower one as I love that book too. I really like your graphics too!

  15. I love all these quotes – particularly about having the courage to be a nobody.

My favourite quote (and I have no idea where it comes from but it is inspiring to me) is “two steps forward and one step backwards is still one step ahead of where you started”

It helps stop me from spiralling further down when I falter or relapse, because even if I took a step back I’m still further ahead than if I hadn’t ever started.

    1. Thank you lovely for stopping by! I find reading and relating to a nice quote helps me fight against my spirals. I know they are only words on a page or a screen but sometimes they describe exactly what I need. They say what I otherwise can’t.

      1. Yes! so much this! I love it when other people put my feelings into words for me 🙂

  16. You’ve got a good selection here! I really need yhis kind of reminders now. Thank you for this. ❤

  17. This is a great collection! The little women quote is one of my favourites as is Juliette Lewis’ purely because of how relatable it is and how much strength it shows. I too am a collector of quotes!

  18. Love this so much! Quote #4 really stands out to me. I’ve been dealing with a ton of anxiety and depression lately and learning how to sail my own ship during a storm sounds perfect right about now <3

  19. Great post! I love the quote about the accept the love we think we deserve and that’s so true. All of the quotes are very powerful and moving. I love your post. Great work.

  20. This such a good selection of quotes, I love the third one t is so true! No matter what we go through or how we feel life will go on.

  21. These are really great quotes. They all are so good. I love the first one because it is a hard move but I for one can say if I had given in to that desire I would not be here today knowing that life would take a turn for the better for me. There are days I whine about my hard times but it is nothing compared to where I used to be when I was at the worst point of my depression.

  22. These are cracking quotes- Thank you! Very powerful and inspiring.
    One of my favourites is:

“Life is too short to be small.” Benjamin Disraeli. Slightly in opposition to your 5th (which is awesomely profound)- I think I shall use both of them to maintain a balance.

    Many thanks,
    Peace and love,
    Spene.

  23. Wow, They are all great, but I totally feel connected to the first one, “the bravest thing I have ever did is live when all i wanted to do was die.” Thats a powerful quote right there.

  24. Yes! I love Robert Frosts, it goes on, quote. I’ve used that a lot lately and it has been helping

  25. Love this! The quote from Perks of Being a Wallflower is also one of my favorites, and I’m so glad you included it! Everybody deserves love in their life, and they shouldn’t compromise

  26. These are all beautiful quotes, they are really motivating quotes. Great post !!

  27. Wow…these are all great quotes but the 5th one really resonated with me. I’ve been the same way all my life…pushing myself to be the first and the best. I’m not really sure where that’s gotten me in life and if it was worth all the stress. I’m figuring out how to be happy just being “me.” Thanks for posting!

  28. I love these quotes. Actually I have read all these five books , so it was like catching on all time favourite quotes of mine. Thank you for sharing.

  29. These quotes are amazing, very inspiring indeed. I love this one “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my own ship.” It is great.

  30. Great quotes here! Little Women is one of my favorite books of all time. I feel like I have to conquer the little things before I worry about the big things!

  31. Thank you so much for sharing this inspiring quotes. I didn’t know them, but found them trully inpiring and encouraging.

  32. These are some very powerful quotes <3 It takes great courage to continue (we should imprint that thought in our mind always).

  33. “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my own ship.” this sentence got me.I stop comparing my self to others and just wait for my time to bloom.

  34. “We accept the love we think we deserve.” That one really spoke to me. Continue on my strong friend.

  35. Awesome quotes! My favorite was “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my own ship.” Little Women; Louisa May Alcott. Very inspiring!

  36. Amazing quotes!!! Everything you said resonated with me immensely my favorite quote being from Robert Frost…Life does go on whether we do or not

    1. Thank you for popping in and showing your support. I am so grateful that my post was able to appeal to you in some way 🙂

  37. Those are seriously inspiring quotes.. Sometimes loneliness can eat you, you’ll end up crying or depressed and reading quotes as inspiring like this really helps.

    1. .”In three words I can sum up everything I have learnt in life; It goes on.” My favourite.

  38. Juliette Lewis’s quote is my favorite of the five. I have it on my mirror in the bathroom. I Have done that. I have survived. I can do it again. I tell myself ever day. I have thought about getting a tattoo of it as well but eeek! Needles!! Great post! Thank you!

    1. I am so scared of needles two but yet I have 7 tattoos? I know, weird!
Thank you for stopping by and showing your support.

  39. Definitely needed this today!!! Thank you for posting and allowing us to start our day right

  40. This is something I need to remember every single day! I love that quote. these quotes. It shows how we are being formed in our daily living.

  41. I love these quotes! They give the positivity people need to get up and do something. Life definitely goes on, we need to move along with it. Life waits for no one. I can resonate with #4, you don’t know until you try! I know for me, I am scared of failing but need to do something or else I might be failing by doing nothing. Thanks for sharing these positive mantras!

  42. You are quoting a few of my all-time favorite books, so this post is just perfect for me. You got some powerful life lessons coming through these quotes, as always reading your posts I am left with a lot to think of and much inspiration.

  43. Good choice of quotes! My favourite is, “You’re a fighter. Look at everything you’ve overcome. Don’t give up now” – Olivia Benson. This quote sums up my recovery ❤

  44. “I’m sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody.” The Catcher in the Rye; J.D. Salinger. This one speaks to me the most. My favorite quote is “nothing is impossible, the word itself says i am possible

  45. I love number 4. Yes it is true that obstacles with failures are the great teachers that will teach us in life.

  46. I needed this, mostly because I have the most difficult time waking up and going to work. I really like all of these quotes but the first one is especially interesting. It reminds me of a motivational speech I watched recently where the speaker said something along the lines of “You think successful people like to wake up early and get out of bed? We don’t. We hate waking up early but we do it anyway.”

  47. I love a motivational quote! I particularly like your choices in this post because I think they’re quite low pressure. They’re not demanding that you be positive all the time, or focus on one thing, or ‘dream big’ – they give you something to think about instead. You can’t fail. They’re really reflective and I think depending on your state of mind you could use them in really different ways 🙂 I’m going to come back to these x

  48. These are all great quotes! My favorite quote is be the change you want to seee in the world. Even though change is inevitable, only you are responsible for the change in yourself.

    Karalee
    Tales of Belle

  49. I have always loved that Juliette Lewis quote because it captures the challenges of living with mental illness without brushing it off or glossing over it like society so often does. It truly does take bravery at many stages simply to keep going, and people need to recognize that they deserve credit for doing so!

  50. These are definitely some sobering quotes!
It may be Friday but I really needed some of these!
I think i’ll use the 10 seconds one from now on when things get annoying at work!

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by! It doesn’t matter what day it is, use them when you need. Sometimes we just need a bit of inspiration and understanding to push us in the right direction.

  51. Such beautiful quotes! Love them!
The catcher in the rye is one of my all time favorites 🙂
And I love your blog. Thank you with us!
    Love,

  52. These are really great and encouraging quotes!! 💓I especially love the Robert Frost quote about life going on. Sometimes when you’re in a down period, it feels like you’ll never get out of it. But things get better eventually. I really love your blog, Nyxie! Excited to read more of your future posts! x

  53. My favorite quote is the one from “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” That is also one of my favorite novels! It is so true. Until, we believe that we deserve all of the LOVE, we settle for things and people.

  54. Brilliant quotes, I love them all but the one that gets me time and time again is the Wallflower one. Trying so hard since having my daughter to demand more for myself, not just leftover crumbs of life as if they’re something magical.

Like, why when I always put others above myself, do I seem to think it’s fine to be consistently put the last in line with almost everybody else? Why let in toxic people instead of making connections with those who’re worth it? I’ve gone through these patterns all my life because I never felt good enough, but actually a lot of what I allow in my life is what’s not good enough, yet each time I glorify it.

I’m honestly not entirely sure if what I’ve just said is even making much sense to anyone but myself, it’s been one of those jumbled kinda days – but this is a fab post, thanks for sharing your favourite quotes with us! 🙂

      1. I’m not sure if I already own it and just haven’t read it yet! I should really look at sorting through my books soon and figure out what I do and don’t own, it’s a nightmare when buying new material!

Quality posts deserve quality responses my dear! 🙂

  68. I post a quote of the week on the entrance to the girls locker room each week… I’m a PE teacher… they just love them! They can really motivate ya

  69. That Robert Frost quote hits me hard. No matter what happens today and tomorrow, life still goes on. It’s really how you respond to the circusmtances that will dictate how you live your life. because even if it ends, everything still goes on…

  70. I love these quotes, especially the one from Perks. I want to get it tattooed on me someday because I just think it’s so darn true.

  71. Love this, especially it goes on. Sometimes it can be hard to “live in the moment” and keep moving forward.Love Robert Frost!

  73. When I’m going through a rough patch I think “this too shall pass” as its just a small phase in life.

  75. These are all fabulous quotes. I really love the first one and the third one. “Life goes on.” Ain’t that the truth. No matter how hard life gets, it does still go on. Great post. Thanks for sharing. I have a friend that is struggling and would appreciate this post. Thank you.

  76. Thanks for the inspiration.
“You Don’t Have To Be Great To Start, But You Have To Start To Be Great.” – Zig Ziglar

  77. That Chbosky quote is so sad and so true. We do accept the love we think we deserve unfortunately. I knew Juliette Lewis had a wild life. Never knew she had it that bad. But glad she has found the courage to keep living.

  78. Great Quotes! The first one rings so true for me! I know there are plenty of times when i just wanted to give up and I thought that life wasnt worth living anymore. but it is. it is so worth it.. had i given in then I wouldnt have the life i do today. It gets better!
