3 Things You Can Do For Recovery Everyday.

What have you done today to help your recovery?

There are many things you can do to sky-rocket your recovery on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter how small it is, or how insignificant it might feel; Every little helps.

Some things you can do to help yourself each day;

  1. Taking a shower/bath.
  2. Having a comforting morning routine.
  3. Eating.
  4. Hydrating.
  5. Light exercise.
  6. Reading a good book.
  7. Watching your favourite TV show. (I’m writing this on Friday so Ru-Paul is a must!)
  8. Spending time with loved ones.

It’s so important to show gratitude for not only the things and people around us, but also for ourselves. While recovering we do so much to help ourselves each day and without stopping to acknowledge this, these little moments can go unnoticed.

What 3 things have I done to help my recovery today?

# 1; My Morning;

Spending time with mum, taking a nice shower, styling my curls, and helping mum with some housework.

I slept in for longer than usual today. Although it’s nice to get up early and to feel the silence of the still sleeping world around me, sometimes I’m just too tired; and that’s completely fine!

I’ve traveled between my own home and my parents, making frequent stops to the hospital to visit my grandmother and also taking time with my other grandparents. At various times in the week, I’ve also been to attending my own appointments to aid my recovery and physical revival. This all accumulates in my body and mind, eventually exhausting me.

It’s normal to be a little tired, but for someone recovering from an eating disorder, the exhaustion manages to go that extra mile.

I had a coffee with my mother, made some toast with light cream cheese and watched a traveling biker visiting beautiful places across Europe. My mother’s taste in TV, not mine. After a while, I opted to put on the emersion heater and take a shower. (If you’re from an Irish household you will know the dangers of the emersion, and perhaps you might feel some pang of fear at the very name).

Overall, my morning was both relaxing and filled with good deeds for others.

#2; Good Coffee;

Making coffee for mum and I and having the time to enjoy it together.

I admit I’ve better coffee at home, but that being said just the act of making coffee for us this morning, and having the opportunity to have five minutes together was comfortable. It was familiar and made me feel like a teenager again but without the hostility. It’s nice to be able to revisit the good feelings of being a child and living at home, as opposed to the nasty which often lurks in the depths of my mind.

It was only Tesco coffee. Not gourmet, coffee machine, americanos. But it was lovely, homely and surprisingly tasty compared to other own brands.

#3; Yoga;

Taking time to do a quick session for my back and shoulders.

I’ve been very bad at this lately just because there has been an awful lot happening in my household. I have been in my own home a lot, and have instead had to make do with being in my parental home. There isn’t a lot of room for silence or a quick yoga session, and any time I have tried I’ve been interrupted.

That being said I managed a quick session this morning. My back and shoulders certainly thanked me for it afterward!
