Planning to completely up cycle your home? Or recently moved? Here are some ways you can get the best out of your home renovation.

Any homeowner in the world knows what it’s like to maintain a home. I, for one, am always redecorating, rearranging, dusting, mopping, vacuuming etc. It’s not the most comfortable job in the world but it’s something that needs to be done. Whether you work on your indoor space or your outdoor space, there are plenty of jobs that will never be finished. Home ownership is endless! And let’s not talk about the bills!

One of the best things you can do when you own a home is to update and renovate your space. This kind of thing makes maintenance a lot more appealing because you’ll have something that you genuinely want to take care of more often.

Home renovations are perfect for improving the value of the home and satisfying everyone within it. While most renovations tend to go swimmingly, they aren’t without their issues a lot of the time. Whether you work with professionals or do a few things yourself, you can run into a bunch of stumbling blocks.

Here are a few ways you can ensure that you get the best out of your home renovation.

Five Ways To Ensure You Get The Best Out Of Your Home Renovation.

Set Clear Goals And Priorities.

Before you even think about diving into this kind of project, you need to sit down and establish clear goals. It’s also important to define your priorities so as not to get distracted by other, menial tasks. To start, take the time to look at your ideal outcome, and determine what’s necessary in order to move forward. Whether it’s a case of enhancing functionality or increasing space, a well-defined vision will guide you properly. Be sure to look at the financial side of things as well as your timeline. Your budget, which we’ll talk about in more detail later, could make or break what you need to carry on.

Finally, prioritize the areas that you want to work on immediately, and identify the features or materials that you want to use. How will you get them? Are they easily accessible and affordable? What about durability in the long term? For instance, using materials like the steel building frame will provide plenty of strength and durability as you look to work.

When my husband and I decide to redecorate we plan out exactly what we want from colour down to extra fittings i.e wall panels. This year we decided to focus on the downstairs of our home. So far we’ve completed the kitchen by giving it a new paint job and a coffee bar which we installed ourselves. However, due to an unexpected expense, we’ve yet to add the finishing touches such as the wall art and cup hooks. But these little details can wait. In the meantime, we’re topping up the paint on the spindles on the stairs with ‘paint markers’ and working on the completion of our graffiti radiator cover.

Our next endeavor is painting the living room, changing the carpet to vinyl wood and updating the wall art. Again, this has all be listed with the most pressing things such as paint as one of our top priorities.

Work Within A Realistic Budget.

We touched on the financial side of things, but the budget really will play a big part in what you can do. You have to ensure that you stay on track financially. Research and gather estimates for various components of the project. Do what you can to factor in a contingency budget for unforeseen circumstances. The more you look into it, the more you’ll strike a balance between your desired outcome and your finances. It would be wise to consult with professionals here, or reach out to friends and family you know how knowledge in that area.

Seek The Best Inspiration When Gathering Ideas.

This is a pretty exciting part of the process as this is where your creativity can really come out. Finding inspiration to work with can be done pretty simply. You can check out magazines, websites, or social media platforms in order to get an idea of what you are wishing for. This kind of planning will not only help you refine your aesthetic preferences but will also serve as a reference point when speaking to professionals.

Pinterest, in my opinion, is your best friend!

Work Together With Professionals And Manage Timelines.

We’ve mentioned this all the way through, but you might not be able to do this all on your own. There may come a point where you need the help of architects, contractors, and designers depending on what you want to do. Collaborating with experts who have experience and skills will help you with the likes of insights and complying with building codes.

Not only that, but working with professionals in any capacity instead of relying on Youtube or DIY websites will mean you’ve less chance of messing it up! Let’s be perfectly candid here, we’ve all tried to save a penny or two, an wound up making things ten times worse. So, the moral of the story is, if you’re experiencing even the smallest of doubt, ask someone with the knowledge and know how!

Most importantly of all, enjoy the process.

Quite often while you’re trying to get the best out of your home renovation, it can be easy to forget to enjoy the process. It’s not just about the end goal, although that is important. But it’s also about enjoying every step of the way. Yes, even the frustrating parts! Celebrate the small wins like each successful colour choice, a new delivery of decorations and the new beginning created by each speck of paint.
